The Park

Extraordinary emotions

Emotion rises in the chest immediately as you enter the Park. Take just a few steps and you'll find yourself instantly in an uncontaminated natural paradise. Extended valleys without roads or centers of human inhabitation advance between the peaks of the Friuli Dolomiti Alps that elevate the Park to the level of "wilderness” ideal for nature trekking and trekking. Far from the city's confusion and the stress of modern life, here is the peace and quiet so important for improving the quality of life: strolling the trails in contemplation, rock climbing; observing nature or simply relaxing without doing anything at all.

Park protagonists

The ability to fly is the first thing you desire as you silently observe the majestic flight of the golden eagle, every valley's one real queen, or perhaps the desire to leap from rock to rock like the herd of steenboks you might meet while hiking along the steep trails.

The entire Park throngs with life and it's no surprise if groups of roe deer, chamois and deer happen to cross your path.

Watch black grouses or wood grouses scatter in fright as you approach.

Observe young marmots at play.

These are moments you will always remember.

Wintry ice and snow

In winter, the Park glitters with a special light and the landscape assumes a fairy tale aspect.

Visit the magic land in silence on cross-country skis, snow-shoes or off-run ski touring or participate in the courses organised in climbing the walls of ice on frozen waterfalls for a unique thrill to be experienced during winter.

Discover the bright side of sub-zero temperatures!

Summer in a burst of fragrance and colour

Imagine a deep blue sky, shining green valleys, mountain peaks red with sunset and the gurgle of crystal-clear streams: you're in the Friuli Dolomiti Alps Natural Park.

37,000 hectares bursting with colour and scent. You'll be enchanted by the delicate white Huter's Sandwort or the intense sky blue of  Froelich's Gentian as the sweet smell of woods and meadows instils an immediate sensation of well-being.

Freshness fills the air everywhere, with strong aromas like mountain pine or the more subtle scent of wild orchid.

Majestic peaks

Surrounded by the towering peaks of the Monfalconi chain silhouetted against the sky at the center of a glacial basin, the Campanile di Val Montanaia stands stately and alone, the universally-recognised symbol of Val Cimoliana, the heart of the Park. You remain breathless before the sight of this amazing pinnacle jutting into the sky scaled for the first time in 1902 by Austrians Saar and Von Glanvell and now the destination in every rock climber's dreams.

The fossilised dinosaur footprints to be seen near Casavento are also surprising, while a view of the curious erosive phenomenon of the "Libri di S.Daniele" on Mount M. Borgą requires a hike up to 2200 meter altitude.
