The woods

The woods

The woods are a complex plant formation that ranges from many meters below the soil (to the depth of the deepest roots) to many meters above ground (to the height of the tops of the trees - and some trees are even 130 meters high).

The woods are an excellent habitat in terms of biological diversity by offering shelter to countless species of animal (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects).

Bringing the timber out of the woods

Felled tree trunk concentration technique. The limited degree of wood-against-wood friction (which can be improved by moistening the surface of the tree trunk) permits the easy sliding of the trunk along chutes lined with the same material.

Timber chutes in sheet metal or plastic are currently used for the purpose.

Trees

Trees are organisms capable of producing the nutrition they need by themselves using the water they absorb through their roots, the carbon dioxide absorbed by their leaves, and the solar energy provided by the sun.

The end result is the formation of carbohydrates (glucose) that permit the production of starch, cellulose and lignin.

Another by-product of these reactions is oxygen, which is released into the atmosphere through the leaves.

This process is known as photosynthesis.

The products of photosynthesis, which in addition to glucose include other molecules subsequently derived from glucose, are carried in solution in the sap developed that will be distributed to all the tree's cells through the phloem.
